Wild Trout Fishing on the River Avon Wiltshire
INTRODUCTIONThe sale offers a rare opportunity for a purchaser to acquire unspoilt chalk stream fishing in delightful surroundings. LOCATIONThe river rises in the Pewsey Vale as a network of clay streams fed by chalk springs which converge to form the main Avon. The river then flows through the heart of Salisbury Plain. At Salisbury the river converges with the River Nadder and the Avon continues its meander to its mouth at Christchurch. DIRECTIONSFrom the A303 at Amesbury take the A345 signposted Upavon. Follow the road for about 9 miles to the village of Upavon. The fishing can be found on the right hand side shortly after the Upavon village sign. The Antelope Inn can be found in the centre of Upavon and makes a useful meeting point and provides excellent accommodation and great food. THE FISHINGExperience the very best in brown trout and winter grayling fishing on this crystal clear chalk stream stretch of the River Avon. A varied chalk stream, the Avon has over 180 species of aquatic plant, it also has one of the most diverse populations of fish, plant and wildlife. This challenging chalk stream offers the keen fly fisherman a superb opportunity to fish for quality wild brown trout from April through to early October. From October through to early March the focus changes to wild winter grayling as they start to out number the brown trout and become more dominant throughout. The fishing rights extend to approximately 548m of single bank fishing. It is believed that the opposite bank is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is not currently fished. The river is generally fast flowing with good pools and gravel beds which provide ideal spawning grounds for wild brown trout for which the area is well known. The river also contains a wealth of natural food which helps to produce strong native fish quite often 2lbs and over. THE FISHERY BUSINESSDuring the past years the owner has sold day rods as well as annual rods. The income from the fishing is about £8,000 per year. ACCESSThe fishing is accessed via a track marked A on the plan attached. The fishing rights are to be sold with a 5m strip of land and the area market X on the plan for the provision of car parking and the erection of a fishing hut.
